Chain & Cogset located within the Gasworks precinct, Newstead is a community focused space, which optimises ‘connection’. The connection between people and the connection of spaces through the central design focus, the chain, this being the crucial connecting component which allows a bicycle to function. Users experience a play on the elements of a bike ride as they enter the space. An implicit route has been created in which users naturally follow as they enter the store, which symbolises the start of their ‘bike ride’. Users continue through the space and reach the peak of the ride ‘workshop zone’, getting to build their own bicycle and finally leading their finished product down the last ramp and out of the store signifying the end of their bike ride and giving them a similar sense of accomplishment they would experience.
