Halcyon is a Relaxation Pod, based on a sustainable and functional approach. Specifically designed for one user with relaxation in mind and serves as an efficient space for the user to conduct four main processes, relaxing, dressing, washing and eliminating.
Located in the Glass House Mountains rainforest, Queensland, the temperature fluctuations on the exterior will assist the internal temperatures to suite the clients needs. This will be achieved by the lighting and steam created in the space and also the natural airflow provided through the non uniformed hole cut outs in the walls and ceiling. As sustainability is important to the clients values, sustainable materials are utilised. Most commonly is the inclusion of timber and recycled glass. This materiality also relates back to design exemplar, Architect duo Rael San Fratello who utilise recycled materials through 3D printing.
A recycled glass mosaic will be rendered onto the walls of the washing space to act as a focal point to the rest of the small space. A vertical living green wall will also be installed on the wall of the eliminating area, this will create an element of interest and also help to purify the air within Halcyon. Timber will be other overall dominate finish and form the exterior facade.
The hole cut outs is an idea adapted from Rael San Fratello also. They will act as windows that will enhance the users experience in the space through different views of the aspects surrounding the Pod and the shadows created internally at different times during the day.
